Dr. Virginia Mayo was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She attended Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, LA. and graduated in 1966 with a B.S. in Biology. She attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. and earned a M.S. degree in Genetics in 1968 and a Ph.D in Genetics in 1971. She did two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Research at Florida State University in the Biochemistry Department and at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Dr. Mayo then taught in the Biology Department at Florida A. & M. University for four years.
In 1977, Dr. Mayo decided to attend Chiropractic College at Life University in Marietta, Georgia, and graduated in 1980. She obtained licenses to practice in Georgia and Florida and decided to remain in the Atlanta area to practice. She has practiced for 33 years in three different offices in Atlanta, Stone Mountain and now in Snellville. Dr. Mayo has practiced in Snellville for 20 years.
Dr. Mayo enjoys vegetable gardening and yard work, reading mysteries and historical fiction, and most of all loves bird watching.
